Can anyone help with production year for this Excel D8? It has a silver metal clad case and serial number 034. I'll try Scotty too.
Thanks
Jim

When I picked up #005, I e-mailed Mitsuo Fujii and he answered pretty quick.

Jim,
I have the exact same Rose Wood D-8 Excel which is 030.

The history behind my purchase. Scotty came to the HSGA Joliet convention in 1987 or 1988 with an Excel D-8 to demonstrate and sell. He was the USA designated distributor for Excels.

I would have bought that Excel, except Blaine Slater beat me to it. I believe that this was the first Excel sold in the USA by Scotty. I immediately ordered an Excel with Scotty. It took at least six months to get it. I believe that this means that Scotty sold me the second Excel during this convention.

So my Excel is 25-26 years old. I am very happy with it and it sounds great. I have heard many Excels and they each seem to have a different sound.
Ian Ufton who has an expert ear says that my Excel sounded better than others. Isaac Akuna played my Excel as the guest artist in Winchester in 2004 and he like it very much.

I hope that this helps with your question, Jim.

Aloha, Smile
Don

I queried Mitsuo Fujii who replied my no. 034 was ordered by Harry's Music in Hawaii, August 1986.
