It is with heavy heart and great sadness I write to note the passing of a very dear friend.
Derek passed this morning at eight thirty.
He had been in hospice since Tuesday last and remained in good spirits until Friday and then slept until passing.
Derek was a quiet unassuming Man,He visited the TSGA show almost every Year and made many friends there, once met,He was immediately liked,He was a lovely man who will be missed by anyone who knew Him.
I think it is true that on returning from each of His many visits to Dallas He brought a new pedal steel home.
Sincere condolences to His lovely Daughter Celia and her Husband Paul who looked after Him so well.
A special message of condolence to His best friend Allan Thompson who truly loved Derek like a Brother.
Billy

I hate to hear this news even though we knew it was coming, doesn't make it any easier.
My condolences to Celia & Paul, and all of Derek's friends.
I pray that Derek knew the Lord, and pray for his peaceful rest. May God bless you all. _________________ Email: azpedalman@gmail.com

Derek was a good man and he was missed at Dallas this year. We said a prayer for him in Commonwealth Corner. He's now out of pain. Thoughts are with his friends and family up north. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Derek was a great guy, had the pleasure of bringing him a new guitar from Fred Justice the Dallas show this year as he was too ill to travel. Will miss his cheeky smile and lovely calm friendly nature, you always found him the same way,a real gentleman who will be sadly missed by the steel family and everyone who knew him, my thoughts are with his family and those close to him. So sad to hear about Derek. I only met him once and that was last year in Dallas. On the few days I spent in his company, he came across as a real nice genuine guy.
I knew from from what Billy Murdoch was telling me that he was ill but it comes as no less a shock to hear of his passing.
I'll keep in memory our last night together when we all went to the Double Tree for a steak. Of course, Derek was encouraging us all to have a nice glass of wine with our meal and when we agreed Derek ordered up for us. When the wine came, it was large glasses all round. We all had a great night that night and I'm glad that I got to enjoy Derek's company on that occasion.
I couldn't help thinking today that that's another nice guy that the steel guitar fraternity has lost. One too many in my opinion! |
