My lap steel is tuned to e9th b e g# b e g#. Lowest to highest. I can play over. 100 tunes on it. I like the sound of the Leavitt tuning but after about two hours of trying it I could not even find one scale, let alone one tune. What am I missing? _________________ LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN GEORGIA |

Where's the 9th? Looks like Emaj, with the 5 in the bass. For a 9th, doesn't there have to be an F# in there somewhere? _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

That's E major, not E9
The 9th chord formula is 1, 3, 5, 7b, 9
So for E9 you need E, G#, B, D, F#

The Leavitt tuning is good for jazz tunes with altered chords, but it's not an easy tuning to play. It doesn't allow for much strumming. It requires very selective picking of the strings. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Roy Thompson also has some instructional material and tabs. As does that other guy whose name I can never remember. Sorry. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |
