I recently replaced the original pickup on a Carter Starter with a new George L Eon pickup. The pickup is working well, but I now notice that the mechanical sounds of the pedals are being transmitted through the pickup and then being heard through the amplifier. Any insights as to what is happening or what I need to do to correct this. Thanks. |

that's part of the life of a steel player - listen to classic recordings closely - you'll hear the noise!
Its part of the reason some of us spend big bucks on a modern pedal steel. Neither my Rains or Williams make much noise but playing my old Emmons is like pedaling a rickety old bicycle _________________ Milkmansound.com |

Well, you could change the mounting of the pickup...like remove any screws and use velcro, or some kind of foam to hold the pickup. This will uncouple the pickup from the body.
However, you can help diminish the mechanical sounds by picking harder. The stronger audio signal will tend to swamp the noises because you'll need to turn the amp down a bit. Most pros pick with a rather firm stroke to get the most from the strings and guitar. _________________ Best regards,

Did you mount the George L differently?
I suppose it is not out of the question that the George L isn't potted by some process error.
Potting makes a big difference in microphonics. |

I would expect more noise...the George-L is a lot hotter and more sensitive pickup than the single-coil that the guitar came with. As for suggestions, picking harder is probably the best one! |

It's all in the Hands..
My old ZB was very microphonic and had a great sound.
At band levels it was not a problem but if you tapped on the leg it would come through the amp.
As far as switching pick-ups it is trial a error.
It sounds like the PU could have low out put maybe???
causing you to turn the amp up... Just a guess.
The new PU should have more output. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.
