Hi friends,

A few months back I picked up an old ZB that was listed here. And by old I mean Serial #11, Phoenix built, small logo. It was filthy, as in muddy filty, but amazingly, all of the parts were there andit played ok! At somepoint, it looks like it was sent back to Zane and had two additional knees added, and two of the six pedals were lopped off. Odd. I am pretty sure that it was a "factory job, because the guitar came out of Phoenix.

I am in the process of a total rebuild, and I thought I'd post some pics as I go along. Thanks to Greg jones for his help so far. BTW, the pickup in this guitar is killer!

I remember seeing that one, and it's very different hardware. Very worthy project & cool piece of history!
Greg Jones has given me much help with and old ZB that I've been tinkering with.
I'm looking forward to seeing your rebuild. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful ZB Russ. Greg certainly does great work.
Does anyone know what year the logo changed?

Tommy, I want to say around 1968, but Greg would know for sure.

I believe that you are right Herb, both about the year and that Greg would know. Smile

The logo changed to the rectangular and final version in 1969 after Tom bought the company from Zane and moved it to Bakersfield. There was another logo between the latest and original CZB logo that was used in 69' but very few are around.

Update:
Stripped the cabinet and started prepping it this weekend. Note the saw markings that were revealed. The neck deck was touched up with stain at some point, and the stain was carried over 1/4" to the bottom deck. I used a cabinet scraper to remove that stain on each side. It is coming along nicely.[img]
