I am experimenting with a new setup on on my non pedal eight string which consists of the E6th tuning and two
strings on top namely the high ninth and the major 7th. As per the E9th pedal steel.
In fact this way the tuning lines up and has the same key locations as the E9th pedal steel. There are slight differences of course..the main one being this set up requires no pedals and I have 8 strings instead of 10. It has a higher and brighter sound and offers much potential.
If you have an extra 8 and can't afford a pedal steel you may want to try this set up.
If so let me know.
Here is a sound bite.

Very nice, Roy. I've tried similar things with less success than you. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Sounds good, Roy. I'm going to experiment with this tuning when I get some time. The high F#, D#, G# is familiar territory for a pedal steel player. I'm thinking that a couple of slants would produce some "pedals A & B sounds". I'll have to experiment with this tuning. Keep up the great work, Roy! _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Right on Doug!
This is an excellent little introductory tuning for
anyone who is contemplating... but not quite ready to
graduate to Pedal Steel.
