Topic: Tone switch OUT on my LeGrande |

| All of a sudden the 'toggle arm' of the tone switch on my 83' Legrande is extremely loose and intermittently goes on and off, with no standard 'click'. Just wondering if whatever clicks on the inside, just breaks or disintegrates with age. I suspect, and it looks as though it could be the original switch. Thanks. |

Butch,
I've seen the two little screws that hold the switch together get loose and cause this problem, so you may want to take a good look underneath your guitar to see if that might be the cause. If they are good and tight, it sounds like the switch will need replacing.

Lynn, thanks for the tip, the 2 real small phillips-head screws on the underside of the switch are real tight.
Has anyone ordered a tone switch from Emmons Guitar Co. lately? Just went to their web site and they show a picture of the switch, but the item description/price is missing(see picture). Does that mean they no longer carry it? Also, the switch pictured has 6 prongs, but mine has only 2. I'll try and call them tomorrow, but I've seen the recent info about it being difficult to contact them.

i think that switch in the pic is for a dual coil pickup
two poles is for single coil switch
they should still have the single coil switch |

I believe that switch is just a generic Carling switch that you can match up at your local hardware store for a couple of bucks.

Take the switch out, note where the wires go. Then take the switch and one of the nuts to an electronics parts store near you, or even Radio Shack and buy one the same physical size, note the hole size. Make sure the nut will screw on the new switch.
What you need is a switch that will open and close one circuit so a DPDT, SPDT or SPST will work fine. Even if it has 6 termnals, you will only use two, one center terminal and one of the end legs on he same side. If it switches the wrong direction, move the outside wire to the other side. or turn the switch around.
Those bat handle switches were standard parts for years back in the day. This will get you going until you find an exact replacement.

I had this issue last year with my Emmons and got a local guy that sets up acoustic and electric guitars. He repaired it for me.
