I need to buy a new computer, so I'm reluctantly selling this.
The pickup covers and the original neck selector switches are missing.
As you can see, the guitar is outfitted with Hipshot De-tuners in the first 2 necks, and the 3rd one has individual on/off toggle switches for each neck.
The Hipshot devices are covering the original endplates, which are intact underneath the bases of the de-tuners, and can be removed. I suppose the pickup covers and original neck selector switches can be replaced. But there are holes drilled in the endplate of neck 3.
In my opinion, the individual on/off switches for each neck are an improvement over the original system. But because of the holes, the guitar cannot be restored to an exact replication of what it was like when new.
The case has been sitting in the crawl space under my house for 20 years and is not in good condition. I cleaned it up as best I could, but the hinges and latches are pretty funky looking, and one of the latches is bent out of shape and doesn't work.
I'd like to get $1,500 for it, as that's what my new computer will cost. But I'll take any reasonable offer.

Mike, can you give a quick idea of how well the hipshot arms work and is the intonation pretty good? If you move a lever up and then later put it back down, does the pitch come back accurately? thanks! |

Dan, these are not like palm pedals. They are not for getting pedal sounds, but rather for using different tunings. You don't use them while you're playing. You set them in between songs to get the tuning you want.
They can be removed and palm pedals installed on the shaft that holds them in place, but I think that's not a good idea.
I don't play Hawaiian or swing style non-pedal, I play a version of Mississippi delta bottleneck style, which requires a straight major chord tuning, and can only be played in the key to which the steel or guitar is tuned.
This guitar is set up so that one neck can alternate between A and C, and the other between D and G.
Intonation and returning to pitch is no problem, if you look closely at the pictures, you'll see that all the levers have fine tuners, which all work perfectly. Don't forget these were made by Hipshot, not some cheap-o Chinese company. (BTW, Dave Borisoff, the owner of Hipshot, is also a very good steel and dobro player.) _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

okay, thanks for clearing that up, Mike. Very interesting system.
I heard Dave Borisoff play steel back when he lived here in California. |

Hey Mike. I'm looking for a T8 so I can add an E9 tuning to the B11 and C13 I have on my D8 Stringmaster. jwaldrich@comcast.net. Your price is right for me. BTW, do you remember me from McCabe's in the 70's? I taught old time banjo and gave private lap steel and Dobro lessons and was in a band with John Zehnder and Carole Miller (and sometimes Larry Bridges) called "Gross Junction". I split for the Northwest in 1981 and have been here since. - Jack _________________ Jack Aldrich

Wow, Carole was a dear, dear friend of mine when I really needed one, one of those few-in-a-lifetime friends.
I have a piece of needlepoint she made for me when I did some playing with Carole, Marty and Lenny, and Bob. I'm still in occasional touch with Marty Somberg and Dave Elson, in fact.
She left us way too soon. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Agreed! John is gone, too. He was the best friend I ever had. Was my best man the first time I got married, and married me and my second wife (in the back room at McCabe's). I'd really like to get in touch with Dave. I hung out with him and got a lot of gigs thru him as a bassist back in the day. - Jack _________________ Jack Aldrich

Jack, I sent you an E-mail about the guitar. Your name rings a bell, and we must have met at McCabe's, but I can't put a face to the the name. I'm sure if I saw a picture of you I'd recognize you. I remember John Zehnder vividly. I think I remember Carol Miller. (Wasn't she Dave Elson's girlfriend?)
I have Dave's E-mail address, but haven't written to him in years.
I live around 35-40 miles from McCabe's, and don't get out there very often. The only person know who works there today is Nancy Felixson. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Hey Mike! I really want to buy it. email me, and let's close the deal. You can friend me on Facebook if you want to see what I look like now. I'm 40 pounds heavier, balding and gray haired, so I don't look much like I did back in the 70's. I remember talking with you about steel guitar at MCCabe's. I got my ShoBud S10, 3/4, from Red Rhodes back in 1975 and was morphing from old time banjo to pedal steel. I played with Lou Galper and his first wife, Becky Bishop in a band called Cowboy Fever, later Rodeo Drive, in addition to Gross Junction, which morphed into The Two Bit Rangers when we added Larry Bridges in '78. - Jack _________________ Jack Aldrich

Re McCabe's - I go in when I'm in LA, but, like you, I only really know Bob Riskin (if he's in) Nancy Felixson and Lou Galper. John Zehnder, Carole Miller, Larry Brown are gone, Dave Zeitlin is up in Eureka, Jack MacKenzie is in New Zealand, etc. I still see Lynn Kamins from time to time at other events. It seems really strannge for me to go in there now, but I do. If either you or Herb will send me Elson's email address, I would appreciate it. - Jack _________________ Jack Aldrich

Jack, the stringmaster is yours.
I rarely get out to McCabe's but whenever I go, Nancy greets me with a hug. I told her about this deal, and that you said hello. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.
