From someone that has one.. I would appreciate it if someone that has one of these old pickups would be kind enough to put an ohm meter on it in both positions.. I have given up looking for a good Bud 6139.. they are either beat to death, or guys want a fortune.. I am going to send the pickup on my later Pro I out and have it wound to the earlier 6139 specs.. It won't sound exactly the same as an early Bud but it will be close enough.. The current Bud pickup on it is wound to 18.5 K, and is way too loud and muddy for my taste.. I am thinking more along the lines of maybe 11 and 15.5 or something similar.. I would be thankful if someone would take some readings and get back to me.... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

I highly recommend you contact Jerry Wallace.
I can't help you with original readings as my 71 roundfront had shorted out pickups when I got it. Jerry rewound them to vintage SB values and I like their tone. He came highly recommended from James Morehead.
Rewind values:
I think my taps are about 12k ohms
The C6th full is 18k. And the E9th full is 17.5k _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

My experience mirrors Tom's. I had a pickup go microphonic on me - I asked Ricky Davis what he'd recommend for having it rewound and he said 17.5K and 11.5K. I've since had Jerry rewind a couple for me and they all sound killer and, to my ears, classically Sho Bud. |

I did 17.5 and 11.5 as well.... on a 73 LDG. Sounds like it should. |

Thanks guys I would probably go a tad less.. maybe 11 K, and 15..
The 17.5 K position on the 6139 guitars always sounded harsh to me, and the "tapped" position sounded magical.. My current Bud pickup is wound to 18.5 and its just way too dark for my taste... I have to keep the treble full, and the bass off, and its still muddy to my ears..
Jerry no longer does rewinds, so I have another pickup specialist in mind that I will be sending my Fender 800 pickup to as well. Thanks for the help... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!
