This is mislabeled on eBay in the "lap" section. I feel like I should recognize this maker but I'm not sure. It is missing the legs, pedal bar, rods and pedals of which the seller seems unaware. Possibly a good buy for some one.

I agree with Crowbear, somebody put some time into giving an MSA some snazz. Polished the parts, possibly had that inlay done (it doesn't quite look like MSA work to my limited knowledge eye).
Should be worth around 1000-1200, but it needs legs and pedal bar, which is about 5 or 6.

Not worth that much as far as I am concerned.. Yes, the added inlay looks nice, but you can buy a complete unaltered MSA lacquer body S 10 guitar in good shape for $1200-1300, maybe a bit higher for one thats super clean.. Might even find one with 5 and 4 if you look...

Not to imply that it was stolen, but you got to wonder what happened to the pedal bar/rods/legs.
Was the guitar lifted when the owner was tearing down?
Happened to me with a lap steel once. One more trip from my car back to the club to get my lap steel and it was gone.
Definitely MSA in origin. Although the 12s vintage body I owned had posts to anchor the strings on the fingers.
It occurs to me the seller uses the word vintage to describe it. That era MSA had the word "Vintage" written on it. Perhaps he knows the history well.

Bob, to clarify, I meant that AFTER someone throws legs, pedals and rods on it, it'd be worth 10-12.
I don't think the cabinet stuff hurts the value, and I don't know whether the aftermarket fretboard subtracts much. The only lacquered MSAs I've seen have had silkscreened fretboards.

I doubt the seller knows anything about it. He doesn't even know what it is called. I believe there are people that just add the word "vintage" to anything that looks old to see if they can jack up the price.

EDIT: I removed my question about the aftermarket fretboard, since Lane mentioned it in the post above mine. I know I read it, but it didn't sink in.

Lane,I have had a few MSA lacquers.. The "fretboards" and rather "plain" look always bugged me.. Such nice guitars deserved some inlay and a more substantial fretboard.... bob

Bob, I'm with you halfway.
That inlay? I think it improves things a lot. Makes the cabinet a LOT prettier.
But when the cabinet has pretty grain, I think a silkscreened fretboard suits it better, as it shows off the wood. The only thing I'd rather see would be inlaid frets and markers, but that level of pretty would get spendy.
Here is mine: the lines are gold, not white

Exactly what I was thinking. Nine times out of ten, when half of it is missing, it signifies that...somewhere along the line, a thief was stupid or in a hurry. Laughing

There are also some major mechanical parts that definitely aren't MSA, and that bothers me. This one is a real pig-in-a-poke.

The "Dave Mudgett fretboard" is pretty cool, though! Mr. Green

If I had the money, I'd be interested. Should be able to transfer legs and pedal bar and rods from my lacquer S-10 Classic and move up to 12. Better go buy a lottery ticket.

But.....I am concerned that it is a stolen instrument. Perhaps the polishing in part of the process of removing a serial number?

I think it's one of the silk screened MSAs that probably looked pretty rough and someone refinished it. All the parts that I see look like original MSA stuff.

The only thing that looks odd is the changer side end plate. I don't remember MSAs having adjustable return springs.

Too bad there's no pedal bar, pedals, or pedal rods, and legs.

Definitely not worth the asking price in that condition.

Definitely not any MSA endplate I've seen. Stop bar is also not factory. Looks competently done, though. But so much for a serial number.

Just noticed...the changer fingers aren't MSA either.
