Do I need a transformer or any device to use a high impedence mic to low impedence connection?

yes

the general rule is low to high - you can run a garden hose into a firehose but you can't run a firehose into a garden hose

Yes. You can either use passive (a line transformer) or active (a preamp) to do the job. The transformer works fine for a low-impedance mic input... if you're trying to drive a home stereo tape-deck input you'll need more drive, so a preamp is called for. All low-impedance connections are not created equal!

Normally the transformer is available at your local Radio Shack... pay attention to the 'sex' of the connectors on each end so you get what you need.
