I will be acquiring a Beautiful Bud in a few days. It has the double/single changer, rack and barrel setup. It has some holes pre-drilled already, don't look like they were ever used. looks like it might be for a LKR lever. Also some other holes pre-drilled that i cant say what they are for. Does anyone know anyone, name and number, where i can get parts made for restoring this with modern features? I want to give it a sacred steel type tuning. Thanks all.
Dwight

What modern stuff do you want? It's not a "single changer." The racks and barrels are sorta part of the changer. You can put a lot of changes on any to all strings. You're only limited by the number of racks, or pullers that you have. A very versatile design.

Very nice! You can do anything with those racks and barrel guitars. Looks like about a '72 to me. |

Beautiful old Bud. But it looks like it has an unusual setup for the three pedals. Is it tuned to E9?

Someone attempted to give it an E7th tuning. Ran out of parts I guess.

I am still mulling over if it would be cost effective to switch to the hex cross-shafts and brackets. I am wanting to make it a 5pedal 4 knee sacred steel tuning.

It would be a huge step BACKWARDS. Price has nothing to do with it.
You can work with the system you have as it is MENT for that guitar, and easily make it 5 X 4. _________________ "Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement"~old cowboy proverb.

Oh yeah...nice 6139. Looks like a '73, since there aren't any tone & volume pots/tap switch on the rear shelf. Older style inlay, which is unusual since most 6139's of that vintage had rope inlay. Pretty rare to see one in that finish, too. What's the serial number?
Keep it rack & barrel... just add to it.
Hey... just noticed that it's rack & barrel with a 2up/1down changer...now that's quite unusual. Just another example of how you can see all sorts of stuff on old Buds... |

I noticed that changer this morning, Skip. It is typically odd for ShoBud, if that makes sense!
Dwight,
My '74 left the shop as a 3 and 1, but had holes drilled for other levers, etc. I guess they were using a drilling template on every body by then. |

One last bump for another week, then it is going to go thru the custom restore.
