Here's a new duo I've been working on with a great 5-string upright bassist, Robert Henson(Shawn Mullins, Corey Smith, the Atlanta Opera). We re-invent songs by Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, Rod Stewart, Georges Bizet, Def Leppard, Pat Metheny, Stevie Wonder, etc...and play them in ways that shock and astound! Yes, they actually ASTOUND!!! (OK, well SOME people kinda like 'em.)
Here's our western-swingified version of Madonna's "Like A Virgin"...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUVQR4Yww1o
"Walking On The Moon" by the Police, mashed up w/The Godfather theme...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQXElogRNo8
And for the truly discerning palate, here's the American classic "Baby One More Time" by the incomparable Britney Spears...

If you're in the Atlanta area this Sunday, 2/17, we'll be at the Wrecking Bar http://www.wreckingbarbrewpub.com/contact/ playing fron 5-7pm.

Steve,I really liked your duet. Very interesting arrangements and sound. You good fellows-play without the percussion is very difficult. Steve, tell me, on which pedal drive are you playing? |

Very cool.
I'd come and see you if I lived a few thousand miles closer.
Great playing from both of you and I really like the FX you are using on the steel. |

Excellent Steel and Bass playing.
If I, as a steel guitarist, could pick only one instrument to accompany,
it would be the stand up bass. You get the maximum benefit with the
stand up bass with a rich, fuller sound. Good job! |

Oh, boy. That just made my day. Totally refreshing and unique - you guys need to go to Hollywood. It's so steel-noir. The bass player is simply fun to watch (and what a pro he is) and I appreciated his taking the lead on the chorus of "Walking on the Moon." You guys are fabulous! (It looks like a 6-stringer, though? Have I lost my counting, among other things...?). You seem like you know these songs (and your guitar) inside and out. Bravo. _________________ Al

Busted! Actually, I play several guitars(mostly a Strat and a Guild Starfire w/ a Bigsby), as well as 6 and 8 string lap steels with the duo. I guess I should have titled the thread more accurately. I'm debuting my newly acquired '64 Rick Electro at tomorrows gig, complete with horseshoe PU and legs. Look out! _________________ Zoom/Skype/Facetime lessons available http://www.atlanta-guitar-lessons.com

Hi Steve you and Robert sound great. I couldn't make it today to the Wrecking Bar would have loved to see and hear you play. Robert is a great bass player. I'll try to keep checking your web page for upcomming show's with Robert and hope to catch you soon.
On the video of "How Great Thou Art" what tuneing are you useing? That really has that Sacred Steel sound to it, like a voice.
Thanks for the music.

Thanks Dennis, it'd be great to see you out sometime.
I think there are several versions of "How Great Thou Art" out there, but I'm pretty sure they're all in open E. _________________ Zoom/Skype/Facetime lessons available http://www.atlanta-guitar-lessons.com

H Steve
It was the one on your webpage listed as atl institute of music 2008. I thought is was E. What was the steel and rest of your rig on that song? Is that a custom steel? What effects or system are you useing? The steel just sings and sound so big.
