Well it was more Rock than Country but Tim McGraw's Steel player on NBC's Tonight Show was seen posing with a nice black Emmons SD-10 LeGrande III. Anybody know who he was? You never got to actually hear him play, but he made a nice prop for the TV Show . . .

Denny Hemingson...he's been Tim's steel player since 1995 or 1996. He worked with the band Highway 101 at one time. |

Now thats a great Job..Good travel, paid weakly, not much overwork, gets to sit down on the job and every gig is casual dress..Probably doesn't have to worry too much about sound check. |

I'm very sure he isn't getting a 1000.00 a night either..The norm is about 250.-300. a week..But I'm sure with Tims concert fee's the guys eat well..The big acts like Tim foot the bill for lodging and burgers most of the time.. but most others in my recolection slept in a bunk and eat beanie wienies...And share odors that speard 40 feet..A friend of mine was known as the king of the 40footers I'm not putting the guy down he's reached a level he's happy with..More power to him..I'm sure he had to be good to get the Job..I'd like to hear him someday.. |

Joe,
Your pay scale is way way way off. I was making $200 a night touring with Wayne Hancock and that was a crappy van tour gig. Pay can vary wildly depending on the situation but your concept about what it is like being a working musician these days has little connection with current realities. _________________ Bob |

Just one time I would have loved to play on network TV,and might have given Tim $250 to play for him Steve I know you have been to Westeren New York and I know you know it's
whine and grape country. Living here and having played shows at wineries I can tell when someone is whining -Sour Grapes What was I doing..Day dreaming that I was playing steel guitar for some super act. |

Steve there are those that do make above the Norm..I guarantee you they are well known for their expertise..I still have many friends who work the road and I can guaranty you they are surviving and picking up their Checks at the local...They only get paid when they go out..It's not a 5 day work week or a salary one can count on year round..Sour grapes,Naw I can afford the sweet ones. Joe??

Sorry Steve:
You are second in line behind me, as I can not play a note better than you can. I've had eighty years of hard practice doing it.I've had many compliments such as
" Were you playing ? we couldn't hear you..It don't get much better than that.. Roger will back me up on this as he has heard me not play a note too. |
