Topic: stringmaster tuning |

I should have my 1955 triple neck stringmaster repaired friday. I am a total beginner, so I am looking for advise on strings and which tuning I should use on the 3 necks. I figure I will learn country music as well as some hawaiian music. Also what order should the necks be tuned?

If you are a beginner, like me, you should maybe focus on one tuning, but I have a T8 also and I use the 2 other necks for some tune. I also play hawaiian and country music.
I love the C6, A6, E13, I think its a classic, setup but I changed the C6 to C13 and sometime I simplify to E13 to E9 or E7 for blues.
So most of the time I have C13, A6 and E7.

Greg, I've got a double with A6 and E13. The triple I'm building will probably also include a C6 or expanded variant.
There's a whole lifetime of terrain covered in those three tunings. |

Man, that's a tough one. I'd say put the neck you use the most in the middle of a triple, the front of a double.
But that's just me. You'll probably get a lot of feedback on that. |

Thats really a matter of preference, I like having the C6 in the front neck but its not really important because you can use the same string set for these 3 tunings! If you use the high E C6. |

I use A6 and E13 on my double neck - the most used neck (A6) nearert to me.
On my triple, I have those tunings on the outside neck and use the middle neck for experimenting with different tunings - curently some kind of E9/E13 variant which I have no idea what it's called but use on maybe one song. |

I ponder on this question since acquiring a double neck. My accumulated advice from others would suggest that the decision is driven by two factors: Tone and comfort.
Generally the outer necks are raised and have a higher mass of wood which may affect the tone. Likewise the string gauges affect the tone so if you are using lighter gauges it may benefit the tone to use these on the stronger sounding neck. There is enough for about a year's experimentation just in this paragraph!
Playability is another factor. I spend most of my time working out on C6 but out of interest I play around with an E13. The tunings and gauges are close enough to not worry about which tuning is on which neck but I've found the outer neck to be more comfortable for long periods of playing so that's my preferred C6 neck.
