Cool!!! I'm so happy to see this along with "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" and "The Wrecking Crew", documenting this incredible era of music in America. I'd love to see the Nashville, New York, Philly and Chicago studio scenes of the same era are similarly documented. |

Peter - There's a new documentary on Sound City in LA. I've been reading into Detroit. There was something in the water up there - too - both blues and country.

Now now Peter! You know Carol Kaye has instructed everyone to not support "The Wrecking Crew"!!!
BTW, I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out and hearing your bass, as always, and your steel in Phoenix. _________________ Bill Cunningham

I'm looking forward to seeing Sound City, myself. I did a bunch of sessions there in the '70's.
Before the building was a studio, it was the Vox warehouse...and that's why all the moveable baffles had Vox amp handles.
I'm also really looking forward to the Muscle Shoals film. Spooner Oldham is my all-time keyboard hero.
That's him standing at Aretha's left.
btw...the second pic is reversed. |

There are quite a few vids on YouTube feat. Roger Hawkins and David Hood with Traffic. This one even has Barry Becket (I think), on Hammond:

Skip, I'll go with you! Back in the day I remember working at Sound City, but I can't remember on what (it was the '70's). Also memorable for nearby Dr. Hogly Wogly's, some of L.A.'s best BBQ, which is still there, thankfully.
I don't know what's going on with Ms. Kaye these days. She was at the "Wrecking Crew" premiere at union here, along with several other Crew members, and very gracious when I spoke with her.
Likewise, Bill. You did a great job on bass with several of the hottest steel players at the Phoenix show. |
