This month you'll find some great instructional type tunes (2) by the late Carl Smith of Columbia Records.
There's some skillful application of the Volume pedal both with and without very high harmonics. This is what many of us used to study in order to expand our knowledge of the electric Hawaiian steel guitar.
Hope some of you will enjoy Jerry's contribution.

St. Louis Blues by JERRY BYRD was recorded, I do believe, during the early 1950's which was long before Jerry came up with his beautiful Diatonic Tuning.
I've always been able to play Jerry's arrangement in the long-popular, C6th/A7th tuning without any compromises.
Therefore, I do believe it is safe to say that Jerry did record it in C6th tuning. |

I meant the first song in the Carl Smith Medley. I wondered if that was a diatonic tuning. Just curious, the playing sounded unlike C6th/A7. Not that I am very familiar with that tuning...Jerry |

Talking about diatonic tuning...
Does the "jerrybyrd-fanclub" website have the song "Cold Cold Heart" for us to listen to?
I believe it was the first diatonic recording.
If it is not on this website, is there another way to listen to it? |

Thanks for the responses to the JBFC posts.
Jerry Byrd recorded "Cold, Cold Heart" in Nashville in April, 1962. It can be found on his "MEMORIES of MARIA" Monument album M-4008. Great performance.
That tableture is posted within the JERRY's PHOTO page and is Jerry's own arrangement.
The tuning used in Carl Smith's Medley of two, is, I'm confident, C6th/A7th. I here no Diatonic chords in either of those two song. I had a terrible time originally, of detecting it, however, if one listens real close, you will sooner or later hear JERRY throw in a distinctly unique sounding chord that you've never before heard and THAT will be the identifying chord you're looking for.
