I was wondering who currently owns some of the pedal steel guitars that were previously owned/played by John Hughey, Hal Rugg, Gary Hogue, Buddy Emmons, Jimmy Day, etc. It would also be cool to see a picture of the guitar along with the history! Thanks in advance!

well I know where one of Hugheys emmons
is its here in the tri city
one of my good buddys owns it and got it from John himself I wont say who it is or where it is
because of "well you know"
he plays great as well guitar sounds awesome too

| My buddy and steel teacher told me back around 1987 or so that while he was playing for Little David Wilkins, Little David owned the black emmons that John Hughey cut all those Conway Twitty songs on. I was told told he later sold it for an unbelievably low sum, under a $1000 if I recall. Not sure if that's true or not. |

Hogue's sister called me a year or so regarding Gary'66 PP. Gary had two PP's when he died,in addition to the 66 he had another which I think was a 71.
Gary left the 66 to his oldest son,the 71 to the younger son ( from a later marriage ,if I remember correctly)
The older son needed some money and borrwed it from Gary'sister. He was unable to repay the money ,She called me and asked if I would be interested in buying it,A deal I jumped on very quickly.
This witout a doubt was the best sounding steel guitar I ever heard. 8& 7 if I recall. I plugged my old guitar up in the living room and ask my wife if she could pick out the PP as I would swap from guitar to guitar or some times fake. Absolutely 100% of the time she guessed right out of about 10 or twelve tries. Absolutely looked and played like new,still does.
Stupid me I sold the guitar because I did not think I had the smarts to work on if it need work on the underside. A
Now here's some exiting news for you PP shoppers . I sold the steel and took a Webb amp, a deal I have always regretted. Jerry Newberry,also known as Austin Stewart,s Grandfather has the guitar. Not long ago he ask if I would be interested in buying it back,at my age I decided to stick with my Legrande.

The old blonde Emmons pictured under my name used to be Hal's also. I bought it from his good friend Mark Tulbert years ago.
It's still got the chart and instructions Fred Trogden wrote for Hal in the case. |

I'm proud to say I have a 66 MSA that was built for Reese Anderson..He cut his first jazz lps with this guitar...

Any idea as to what well-known songs Hal may have used this guitar to record??
By the way, I'd like to see some pictures of John Hughey's old guitars if anyone out there has one and would like to post a picture. Thanks.
