You Only Live Twice (1967) is the fifth spy film in the James Bond series, and the fifth to star Sean Connery. The film's screenplay was written by Roald Dahl, and loosely based on Ian Fleming's 1964 novel of the same name.

The soundtrack was the fourth of the series to be composed by John Barry. He tried to incorporate the "elegance of the Oriental sound" with Japanese music-inspired tracks. The movie soundtrack song is widely recognised for its striking opening bars. Hank Marvin recorded a solo version.

Played here on the Steelocaster A6 tuning run through an Alessis Quadraverb with patch #51 "Walking on Air", Fender Hotrod and an Aphex Punch Factory compressor. The base backing track is from Music Minus One and four rhythm guitar tracks were added: Martin Custom X and Gibson Chet Atkins, two acoustic and two electric. Key of B.

Enjoy!

Nice job, Kay. I've always loved this song, the arrangement, the intro, the Japanese inspired hooks, Nancy Sinatra's vocal, and the Bond mystique! You really captured it. I tinkered with this one a couple of years ago on C diatonic, but never finished it. Thanks for posting your recording!

As Doug said perfectly, I too have ... always loved this song, the arrangement, etc.
Really nice, Kay!

I was in the drugstore recently and heard the intro sampled and used for an R&B/Rap song. It's such a classic hook. There's something very compelling about the way the steel guitar stands out in the mix over an orchestral string pad.

I enjoyed that Kay, I was listening to some music from Indonesia and remembered your recording of Sarinande, I went looking but you seem to have taken that one down.

James.

Grateful to all for the appreciation. It was suggested at another forum that I accentuate the steel a little more, so the old mix has been replaced with a new one. Hope you enjoy the new mix too.

I have also removed the 's' from https, so the track is more freely available.

James, I am sorry about "Sarinande" being taken off. I usually take the mp3 tracks off as they become commercially available in mastered form , but yourself and listeners in this forum are exempt.. here is the link. Let me know if you have problems.

Kind regards to all,
