I can't begin to tell you how emotional it was at the SWSGA show when Bud played "The Waltz You Saved For Me". As some of you know, Bud had a stroke a few years back and just stopped playing because he wasn't 100%. We have been coaxing him for the past several years to give it another try and he has refused. Suddenly a couple of months ago I was talking to him on the phone and he said he wanted to actually play on the show this year and had been practising. He stumbled a little on "Slowly", but you could hear the "Bud Isaacs Tone" when he went into "The Waltz You Saved For Me". Geri had tears on her face onstage and there were a whole bunch of us out in the audience with tears including this crusty old man. Congratulations Pop, Love you...rj

What great news. His playing set me on fire in my early days. Not just "The Waltz", but "Indian Love Call", Steelin' Away" and all those other memorable pieces. One of my favorite solos was on Red Foley's "Walking in the Cold, Cold Rain". I still run thru those tunes when I'm practicing.

That indeed was a special set for all of us. Bud and Geri have been a great friends, and their visit was a treasure for sure.

Geri mentioned that he had not played since '97 before they went on stage - Bud with that half a Bud smile and said, "and it may be 20 more years before I try it again after you hear this one." Geri said, "You will do fine Hon" he said, "if I don't make it through this one I AM NOT TRYING AGAIN till after I am a hun-derd"

When Geri mentioned on stage she had not heard him since '97 she fought back tears - such a lovely couple and they seem to have fun with each other all the time not just on stage.

After they sang "Happy Trails" and just about the time, they were walking off the stage - Bud look up at me and said "remind me why some of those guys need 10 or 12 pedals and that many knee levers" - and flashed me that smile and winked. Later he stopped me as I was walkin by their table Bud smiled and said, "Bobby Black don't need all them pedals now does he?"

I think they had a great time and I KNOW that everyone was touched and honored by seeing them.
