Hi, Trying to get with the internet swing of things, I took pictures while I unboxed my new lap steel, an 8 string made by John Allison. And I've turned it into a slide show that I've put up on Youtube.

No music in the slideshow. Got to put new strings on the beast first. Then let the axe speak for itself.

Love the string width. Wider like Sho-Bud. Tone is tight all the way to the bottom. Singing out wanting to go into overdrive on the tippy top. I'd been thinking of steeler Terry Sutton. He had this incredible Atkins-like finger picking style on Sho-Bud. In my minds eye I see Terry right at home on this guitar.

The axe sat in a very fine music store, Hill Country Guitars. The pictures are straight out of the box. I see I should have wiped the guitar down first. Regardless it is a beauty. And I refrained from plugging in only long enough to record the arrival first.

Just a tease. Made of Mesquite.

Very Happy

You can tell just by the left hand--that comping rhythm.

Nice guitar! Good luck with it.

"Hey Now" -- That's such beautiful playing, and your new steel is beautiful too.

Hi Bob Blair. Thank you. It must be long cold nights for you. Smile

Just about done changing strings.

For some reason the guitar reminds me of an MSA lap steel I sat at in the 70's. The feel is very comfortable for me being a pedalist primarily.

The tight compact tone top to bottom also reminded me of MSA.

I did a sustain test. I picked the low A of the C6th tuning on my long scale West Coast Koa 8 string and the short scale Mesquite. The Mesquite won. I couldn't believe it.
