I put one inch extenders on my professional and unlike the long rods on my mullen, my boot toe wants to catch on the extra nuts. Is there anything I can do to make it smoother? tommy t.

I tell you what. When I was starting, and had that problem, my steel teacher told me exactly that. He also told me that it was gonna feel weird. He was right. Felt so weird, I wanted to give up on it. But it was chewing up my boots.
You really don't need your whole dang foot on the pedal.
But any ergonomics change will feel bizarre, especially if you're new(ish) to the instrument.

Years ago I used the caps from used Magic markers.
Just drill a hole in the top end of the cap, feed the rod thru it and let the open end of the cap rest on the pedal. The nut should be inside.

I needed this because at that time the cowboy boots had very long, thin square toes.

The alternative is to put the extra locknut between the extender and the long rod. It will be higher up the rod.

Think maybe I'll try the magic marker trick, reason being I need as much boot as I can get on pedals, 11 pair, mostly very pointed. All good ideas. Thanks tommy t. Very Happy

Another alternative to what Lane first said. Try repositioning the whole steel guitar 1/2 inch forward. That should do it. Tommy.......

I used liquid electrical tape. It wears off in time, but is cheap and easy. Got it at Home Depot.
