Roger Blevins on a Dusty Owens CD from 50's

I recently purchased a Dusty Owens CD of recordings from the 1950's. Roger Blevins is credited on the CD as playing pedal steel on 4 of the cuts. I really like his playing and wonder why I have no knowledge of him. Can anyone help?

I believe that Roger was the staff steel guitarist for the Baldknobbers show in Branson for like 30 years not sure exactly but for a long time, I think he retired about a year or so ago, he was one of the founders of the Ozark steel guitar association, If I have anything wrong here somebody set the record straight please

Dusty lives in Tampa. He used to be a regular on the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree. I went to a jam at his house last year. His lead guitar player from Wheeling, Sonny Oden, was also at the jam. Another name from the past was also at the Jam - Merv Shiner who had the million seller hit of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" in 1950. Merv is 88 or 89 but you can't tell it by the way he still sings and plays rhythm guitar.

Dusty wrote one of the most recorded songs "Once More" that has been recorded by many including Roy Acuff.

Dusty had a stroke back in the spring but is home and recovering fairly well.

Old thread, but thought I could still add info. Roger is a great steeler....from Nixa, MO and the above info is correct...with the Baldknobbers. I first saw him play at a club in Springfield called Half-a-Hill Bottle Club. Speedy Haworth, Junior Copeland and others lit the place up. Quite an unbelievable band. Roger had a short stint with Brenda Lee on the road but didn't have much use for her and headed back to Nixa... Long time friend of the Mabe's, he was waiting to get the gig when things really got going well in Branson. He is an excellent steel player that stayed around home, but could have played with anyone.

Roger also played several years on the Slim Wilson TV show on ch. 3 in Springfield, MO before he played for the Baldknobbers. Slim Wilson and Speedy Halworth both had been staff musicians on the Ozark Jubilee TV show.

Roger is a dear friend that I miss quite a bit after working at the Baldknobbers with him for a couple years and he is now playing gigs with some friends and fellow players in his area and having a great time doing the things he likes to play now. Roger is one of my favorite people in the Branson area. I don't use the term "nice guy" very often but in his case he is a very "nice guy" and great player.

As Jerry Roller said...A Super Nice Guy and Super player. Roger got me interested in moving to Branson way back in the mid seventies. I made the move in '79 and started playing here at that time. He is truly a dear friend.
