I have had several JCHs and they all had different pickups. My JCH brochure advertises a choice of Bill Lawrence or JCH pickups. The photos show what appear to be 705s. _________________ Chris Lucker

When I worked with Jimmy from the mid to late nineties, Jimmy wasn't winding any pickups nor did I ever see a winding machine. Jimmy was using Lawrence 710's and used to to use 705's and E66's. His personal guitar had PF1's. I think that if Jimmy ever installed a single coil, he would get them from Emmons. I don't even recall him ever mentioning about winding his own pickups or anyone specifically winding for him. I did hear him say one time that when he would put a single coil in his guitars, that they sounded just like an Emmons. I just automatically assumed he used Emmons single coils. |

Dean, and all, here is my old JCH brochure. i do not know the date, but perhaps, Dean, you can date it by the prices?
Here is a front shot of the brochure:
Here is the reference in the brochure to a "J.C.H. pickup," whatever that is.

This is just a guess but from the looks of the prices, I would say early nineties. I'm going to do a little investigating myself to find out about the pickups. |

I just found out from a reliable source that a JCH pickup was a single coil pickup that was wound by someone at Emmons. Jimmy and John Hughey loved the old push pull tone from the single coil pickups and I would say probably had single coils wound to their specs for the JCH guitars. I will say Jimmy was a huge fan of Bill Lawrence pickups and the 705's and the 710's sound great in a JCH. Jimmy's guitars really sounds good with just about any pickup. |
