How often do you have Steel Guitar Shows or Jams a year.Do you do Tracks the first hour or so? Do you also have a band for the Steel Players to play with?
Do you also have a dance at the end of your Show or Steel Guitar Jams?

Samuel we have ours once a year in March. We have a really great house band or the players can bring their own bands. We kind of frown on tracks only because it takes some work getting them to run right thru the system and also we are strong advocates of live music. We have had a dance on Saturday nights, and we have a jam on Fridays where no matter what you play you are welcome to come out and join in. This pretty much eliminates the hassle of people wanting to get up on show day. This next year's show by the way, we will have as a guest artist Mr. Joe Wright and his lovely wife Connie.

I'm a member of the Georgia Steel Guitar Association, and we do two Peach Jam shows-one in June and one in November. We got a staff band, and a lot of players will bring the bands they play in. We've got some great singers and musicians at the Peach Jam shows. Our shows take place on Sundays, and it's amazing to be a part of a wonderful organization, the GaSGA! Our headliners vary because sometimes we'll have a Nashville player or sometimes it might be a player from Georgia

So far at the West Texas Steel Guitar Club, we've had a small backup band for our meetings and haven't had to use tracks, but if we couldn't get the band together, I wouldn't mind using tracks occasionally. Sometimes, if youu're lucky, some of the guys play other instruments in addition to steel. We have our meetings every two to three months. Many of our members play a lot of the weekends and we didn't want it getting to be too much of a hassle for them.

San Antonio Steel Guitar Assoc. has 8 jam sessions per year. 2013 will be our 3rd year and will start the first jam session the first Sunday after Super Bowl and then have our jam sessions the first Sunday of each month through September. Our first year we had 6 meetings with the first meeting had 14 steel players and a small back up band. Attendance was soso after the first meeting and then in 2012 we changed location and have great players and steady attendance. We have our jam sessions from 2pm until 5pm and longer if need be...also we do not charge admission but do ask for donations for the rent of the hall and the remainder of the donations will be presented to the American Legion for the Wounded Warrior Foundation. 2012 we donated $500.00...jr

Joe that is great. What I done my lst Steel Guitar Jam here in N.C. I went to the senior Citizen center and got the hall for free and what ever money they took in for food and a 50/50 raffle was all donated to the Senior Center and they came out with around $350.00.THey were happy and we had a good time. WE played tracks the first hour and a half then we had a band the rest of the Jam.WE went from 10:00AM to 4:00PM and I usually have 12 to 14 Steel players but ended up with just 6 of us this last one. It was Mule Day in the town and I did not know that or I would have waited for a later date.

We also have a band of 6-7 players that are pretty good considering all but 1 works and never have a chance for practice. We pay 50.00 for hall rent to the Converse American Legion and the Legion also has lunches available to all for about 5.00 / person. We have a "4 SALE" table where those attending can sell anything related to our music like amps, guitars, cds, and nothing that is illegal, smells bad etc.
Ken Metcalf has a monthly jam session in Austin and Billy Phelps has one in Katy on the first Sunday of the month. I checked with Billy and Bobby Bowman before I moved our dates. After Bobby and Billy gave me the nod we changed to the first of the month and have had more people attending...It's been a lot of fun....hope you have a great time Sam...jr

Greater NW Steel Jamborees in Portland take place once or twice a year, whenever the buzz starts getting loud enough. We have tried once or twice to use BIAB but that did not satisfy, so we have gone back to an excellent live backing band, with the host steeler set up on stage to start and finish each song, and the rest of the steels arrayed in a more-or-less circle around the dance floor. Everyobody - pros and beginners alike - gets to shine somewhere, and everybody gets to make their own mistakes somewhere else, so there is basic equity and acceptance. We pass the hat to pay the band and so far everyone has gone away happy.

In the past we have gathered in various bars and nightclubs but lately we have met at various Elks Lodges around town. They have been very receptive to us, we eat their good food and drink enough of their booze to make the day profitable, and we in turn have plenty of room to spread out, set up sale tables, chat in a quiet corner, etc.

We almost always play from 1pm until 5pm with a couple of breaks and then pack it up; some folks get up and dance during the jam but when it's over it's over and we all go home.

The Heartland Steel Guitar Association based in Kansas City has a jam session every other month. We have a back up band - bass, drums, guitar, and a couple of singers. We then have an annual festival in the summer. http://www.heartlandsga.org/
