A couple months ago I stumbled across a site from someone who offered day long personal 1 on 1 workshops for all levels of player from beginner to advanced. I don't remember enough of the details to be able to track that down again via Google. Does that ring any bells for any of you? Do any of you know about anything like a day, or 2 or 3 day kind of intense workshop kind of experience like that?

Thanks for any info.

Well done! http://www.freewebs.com/steelguitarmusic/steelguitarbootcamp.htm is what I stumbled across a while back. Thank you for the name.

I am still interested in anyone else's input on similar experiences offered.

Thanks again Jim.

I'm fairly sure it's not me... but many of the lessons I give work out to 5 hour marathons, especially the first lesson. Too much to go over and catch up on to lay the groundwork for just an hour or two!
I've had a few students come in an get a hotel room and come in for all day lessons for a week. Get a lot done that way.

Mark, my Lesson 1 for students averages about 3.5 hours: reading tab, string grips, palm blocking, ergonomics, checking out their steel, making adjustments in many cases...it all adds up!

Question for players who took Jeff Newman's Top Gun week-long course (or others similar): did you find that helpful, or was it too much to absorb in such a short amount of time? In the end, how much were you able to put to good use when learned in an intense study period like that?

John, I didn't go to a "Top Gun" class, but to Jeff's first week-long advanced/teachers class in, I think, 1977. I had been playing just a short time and thought it might be over my head, but it was just right. I remember going home with TONS to work on and revisit, and while there was a lot of material, the main thing was what the class had done for my motivation- I knew I could learn, I knew there was a lot more material to study than I had thought, and I knew I had a new paradigm of how to learn, by having issues and concepts pointed out and just simply made obvious by the week of intense exposure. I can go back to my notes from that week and trip synapses all over again and be right back in the learning mode.
Best single thing I ever did for my playing.

Hi Chuck,
I don't know if he would be interested, but I think Jerry Roller has given some lessons in the past. I think he has given lesson to the one and only Austin Stewart. He is a very experienced player and does repairs on steels. He lives in or around Van Buren. Can't get much more Northwest Arkansas than that.. If I were nearer I would be asking him for lessons......just a thought...........clark
