Can anyone tell me if a SKB R4215W Roto Molded Keyboard Case w/Wheels can be modified to fit a D-10 or 14 String Guitar?

I don't have the measurements of either the steel or the SKB , but if it is large enough , then just add some foam rubber ,,, probably hard rubber .. contact cement ....etc You probably know most of the info to complete the job JF

In general, most keyboard cases are too shallow and overly long. The inside dimensions of this case are 5" deep x 41" long, so you can probably measure your steel and draw your own conclusion.

There is an SKB rolling keyboard case (forget the model#)that is nearly the perfect size for a D-10 body. The pedalboard and leg bag can either be carried in a separate bag or stored in the lid on top of the guitar body. There was a post on this very subject not too long ago.

Thanks for the input. I've ordered an SKB R4215W. I'll try it. Can always send it back. Jimmie

Jimmie...The case that I was refering to is the SKB #3611W. While marketed primarily for drummers as a trap case, with some padding added it is ideal for an SD-10/D-10 steel guitar.

3611 - that's what I have. I actually have two - one for each Emmons D-10. I believe mine once accommodated Sierra steels so all the required foam packing was already in place.

Mine have a hardboard lid behind which I can fit the legs, pedal-bar and rods. it's very compact and convenient although fairly heavy; I just shipped an empty case up to Doug Earnest for my new Encore steel so I can confirm it weighs 16 lbs without a steel inside.

I have made 3 of them plus put a plywood frame in a 3 or 4 gig bag type rolling keyboard cases.

In the molded plastic ones Jerry F is correct - good foam and glue it in - Sierra used only plastic molded cases.

If you want to get fancy or are afraid of the foam scretching something you can put ultra suade over it - been there done that too.
