It is with deep regret that I advise you that Mary Lake, wife of Keoki for 60 years died in Edmonton this afternoon at 3:18 Edmonton time.

She had a severe stroke in Ocotber and for a while it looked as though she was going to pull through, but in the last three days, it all went down hill.

George will be devastated without his great partner.

I met Mary this summer while visiting Edmonton, and she was as lovely and gracious a human being as I've ever met. This is a sad day.

George, my sincere condolences to you on this very sad day. Please remember the good times you both had performing for us, especially here in Caroline, AB, at the Canadian Steel Guitar Show in 2009. Sincerely, Jim Harrison

Hello dear friends...

It is often said that "grown men do not cry". Well, I am here to tell you my eyes are very sore from all the crying since I lost my awesome lady who was the solid rock behind everything I have ever accomplished.

I feel the picture here on the Forum is wonderful. It captures her beauty, talent, love of Hawaiian music. (too bad I look so grumpy playing steel). Mahalo Jim for posting it....so appreciated.

Sincerely with my fond 'Aloha' to each of you here on the Forum. "Keoki"

Crying or Very sad Sad
Unlike her "grumpy" husband,- Mary was a beautiful and friendly lady that seemed to enjoy everyone she knew. We haven't seen her lately in the past few years but we will always remember her. May she Rest In Peace. Thanks for posting the nice photo.

Keoki,

My heart goes out to you in the loss of your life's companion. She was a treasure as all who have met her have said.

I have so many fond memories of her dating back over the 25 years ago of going to Hawaiian Steel Guitar conventions in Winchester, Joliet and Hawaii. She was always a delight!

Now, may she find rest and peace in God. May God also give you peace in your brokenness.

Aloha pumehana,
Don

It seems to be a sad twist of life that couples only seem to go together in tragic circumstances. In most cases, we start our life's journey alone, then we meet someone to share the journey with us and one finishes up alone again, but this time with family and a whole lot of memories. New Zealand couldn't be much further away from Canada and so we were lucky to have had a visit from Mary and George some years ago. Probably only days more so than a week but thoroughly enjoyed. Yes, there was music of course, but it is in quiet conversation that you get to really know them and have these moments to remember. The moments are precious as they are ours alone, always to be treasured, never to be forgotten. We count ourselves lucky to have had this time with them.

Keoki,

I rarely visit the forum but today I did, to this sad news. Heartfelt condolences to you. As you commented, Jim Harrison's photo captures a joyous beautiful woman rejoicing in the music.

George, I'm very sorry for your loss. I have forwarded this link to my Uncle Vern Eide who was Canadian & much like you, lost his wife of 60 some years. He and Alice were both so active in the Hawaiian scene and I recall your names spoken fondly at the conventions in Winchester and Hawaii.

It goes without saying how lonesome life can be when you lose a wonderful partner who has shared your life for 60 years ... terribly lonesome.

I want to thank each of you for your very kind condolences ... your support has been so appreciated.

And Kevin, I do recall Vern and Alice so well. Please
pass along my best wishes to Vern. Mahalo.
