Has anyone tried one of these tuners since the StroboFlip is no longer available. These look to be a little better built unit, and more compact, plus its a good DI Box. It also has all the sweetened tunings available for two different E9's, a C6th, and you can easily program your own. Like to see if anyone is using one of these with success before I drop the bucks for one. Looks like sweetwater.com has the best price. Thanks

I love mine. If you change the presets, it has to be done on the computer program and synced to pedal. Took a while to figure out, but its no big deal.Big bright strobe display and built like tank. |

I almost bought one and I'm really glad I didn't. Check out a Turbo Tuner. Very easy to program, much more compact and cheaper to boot. |

Very good info Cartwright....Thank You. I checked out their site, emailed them, already got the email back. They offer Newman or Emmons tunings, etc..plus it even shows you pedal and levers to tune, which I didn't quite understand about that, but will give them a call, and probably order one.....sounds like a good deal on the price. _________________ Carter D10 8/5, Hilton VP, BJS Bar, Sonic Research Strobe Tuner, Elite' Powered Speakers, Fender Telecaster, Traynor YCV40 Tube Amp |

Today I purchased the ST-122A Turbo Tuner.....I was going to buy a Peterson, here's the reply email to me from the company that makes the ST-122A Turbo Tuner....this is why I bought one.
Howard,
The ST-122 is no longer in production. It did not have the PSG tunings built in, nor did it have the ability to show the pedal/lever along with the note.
The ST-122 had a plastic case. The ST-122a is machined and anodized aluminum.
While the price of $169.99 is higher than it used to be, it's still less than the competition and it 's a better tuner:
Tune your PSG's pedals and levers with any offset for any note or octave.
Faster response.
Made of aluminum instead of spray painted plastic.
Made in the USA instead of China.
All our tuners come with a 30 day 100% no-risk return policy. If for any reason you decide not to keep the tuner, we will refund all your money, even the return shipping. (Offer applies to ground shipping only).
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email us.
Sincerely,
Roger at Turbo Tuner Support

I bought a 122a a couple of months ago. I found it tricky to use at first but I have aversions to menu driven electronics and reading manuals. When I hit the wall because everything was tuning 1/2 step sharp, I called customer service. The person that I spoke with was helpful and articulate. He answered all of my questions and talked me through using the tuner, which got me going in the right direction.
He also invited me to call again if I had further issues. Best $170. that I spent in a while and great customer service. _________________ Justice Pro Lite (4-5), Justice D-10 (8-5)x2 , Quilter Steelaire, Hilton Pedal, BJ's bar. |

Are there any updates on the Turbo Tuner ST122A?
I am considering buying one and wanted the latest (if any) info on one.
Pro’s or Con’s?
Thanks

Michael:
I've had an ST-122A for about a month now. They sent it the next day after I ordered it. I know they had some back order issues for a while, but it seems they are back on track.
It is absolutely great. Built like a tank; the case is tough; the strobe display is bright and easy to read. I really enjoy that the Newman E9th (open strings on one program, pedals and levers on the next) and Newman C6th (same deal) are all part of the standard programs available.
It's got complete tweakability if you like a different tuning, but I like the fact it works perfectly for me right out of the box.
I have to say I've never used a Peterson Tuner (except for the Strobotune application which I have on my laptop -- it works well but I'd rather not drag my laptop around just to tune my steel).
I would highly recommend the ST-122A.

Michael I forgot to ask about customizing tunings.
For example I have used all the Newman and Emmons presets and they work fine. However with each guitar I find my ears are my most exact reference for tuning.
If I am at an outdoor gig and I want to check tuning for my specific tuning for; let’s say string 5 with pedal three and lever x or whatever combination, I want to be able to set the tuner to suite my ears as opposed to other presets.
As you are aware tuning while during a show is not always possible when you can’t or don’t want to be heard.
If I can set a tuning to my specific needs, that is what I am listening for, that is what I want.
Do you know if this tuner is capable of modifying tuning for various pedal and lever combinations other than the ones that are in the preset?
In short I trust my ears but can’t use them live.
If this Strobe can be setup specifically for my preferences I’ll jump on it.
If you or anyone else can let me know if this is possible with this strobe I would be grateful.
Thanks again

It sounds to me like you're wanting, f'rinstance, multiple C# notes. I think it'd be easier to write down, eventually memorizing, how many cents off the notes are, rather than expecting the tuner to recognize whether that's the A pedal, C pedal or the raised 3rd string on the back neck
I know it didn't take me long to stop looking at my Newman chart back in the day.... _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

You’re right Lane, and I have done the same.
However the manual shows this tuner is capable of recognizing some pedal combinations.
I’m curious as to just how versatile this tuner may be.
More than likely this is wishful thinking on my part. _________________ No Avatar only a picture of my Mentor. |

You all hang on.
They are coming out with a new design any day now.
Chuck Campbell is a dealer for the company. He will be getting them soon. |

I've come to love the Snark clip-on tuners. No presets, no Newman charts, just straight up accurate tuning. It has been my experience, after owning several steel guitars, and innumerable charts or tuners, that the guitar STILL needed tweaking a little. I've got Snarks in all my guitar cases, dobro and Weissenborn cases, and clipped to the body of my Desert Rose. A little courtesy and a few extra minutes, and I'm in tune! I might have to tinker with the thirds a little, but I'll be in tune. AND, I won't leave my tuner behind! |
