I found this picture of me (when I was 17) with my first steel.
Can you guess what make and model it is?

Also..... I wonder who has it now?

Would it be a Denley?
I see you had the same right hand positioning then as you do today. But the hair is different...it was like..bigger in those days?
Great idea for a thread.."Me and my first steel"

David, I want to let you know your version of "Crazy Arms", on You Tube, is outstanding. I have never heard anyone play that song any better--excellent. It raised the hair on the back of my neck. Keep up the good work! I am sure you will love your new Justice Guitar. People have told me I needed to buy that purple Justice guitar I used on You Tube, because it was the best sound they had heard me get.

Frank......
Not a Framus, and it is an american built steel..

Marco....
I was young once and long hair was fashionable... Any hair would be fashionable now...

Bent...
You said..."Great idea for a thread.."Me and my first steel"
So, while you're thinking about what my first steel was, maybe we could extend the replies with pictures of yourselves with your first steel guitars too...

Oh, and there maybe a few UK players who know what my first steel was, so please let the thread run on until someone else has the right answer.... Remember, it must be the make AND model....

David I had long hair when I was younger and now it is very thin. But one thing is for sure hair or no hair you sure can play that steel. You are a great inspiration. Smile

David is it a ZB ?
It doesn't look it in the picture so this is just a guess based on how popular the ZB was in UK .

There aren't many photos of me playing my early, home-made steels, but I've found this one, from about 1988, playing my sixth home-made one.

I sold it to a bloke from Stoke-On-Trent in about 1996, maybe he still has it

The first steel that I actually gigged was the green one in this photo, 1984

Here's a couple from about '87

Re.... My first steel.....
Someone was "getting warmer" but make and model was the question.. Very Happy
Here's a bit of help...... Don't go by looking at the front of the guitar, I modified it with red vinyl and strips of shiny aluminium.

Richard...
I love them old pictures, that green one with staggered pick ups; why did it have the tuning keys covered with a metal plate?

Dave,
Some of my early steels used a keyless system that I designed.

It was quite ugly, even by my standards, so I made a metal cover for it.

Here's a couple of pictures of later versions of my keyless tuners

Hi John.
Yes it is. I thought I would jazz up the plain aluminium front when I got it home.
I wonder who has it now though?

Oh. sorry, there isn't a prize for guessing right.... Very Happy
