These are pics of an '82 Pro III that I recently got in the shop. Doing some work on it for a forum member. All the rods had to come out and I had to do a total re-rod after a very labor intensive cleaning! I can't figure why it wouldn't hold tune...with all the glue or gunk that someone(not the owner) put in the nylons Laughing It's some nice gooey stuff. You could twist all the nylons easily with bare fingers. A sure sign they're a little worn...just nasty looking Changers..

More pics to follow... Cool

You can get them from Show Pro. They sell the George L's tuning nuts. Get their contact info from their website and get ahold of someone there. They'll get ya fixed up.

Nice job Todd. I had to stand on my head to look at the first two pictures.

Well, I finally got the time to post the rest of the pics. This guitar was a mess. All the pulls were way off. Raising strings that it should lower and vice versa. It wouldn't hold tune longer than 10 minutes. Really bad. When I got it, it had an A & B pedal that barely worked, and a Vertical that had the 10th string overtuned.

I took all the rods out. Gave the undercarriage a good cleaning. It was very filthy from years of over oiling. I replaced the 2nd string half stop barrel with a new one. The original one had seized up and wouldn't move. I re-rodded the guitar and gave it a complete 8x5 setup from scratch. Even the pedal stops had been messed with. I polished all the aluminum by hand the best I could and polished the lacquer finish.

This is the first Pro III I've played, and only the 2nd one I've seen in person. Having done some work on this guitar, my opinion of Pro III's has now changed dramatically. I was told to stay away from them because they were different as to how the changer mounts to the body compared to all the other wood neck 'Bud's. I was told the way these Pro III's Changers mounted was a big part of them not sounding as good as the other wood neck 'Bud's. Not true!!! I've had alot of Sho-Bud's come through my hands one way or another, buying them or working on them, and this one is tops on the list!

There was a lot of Super Glue on the aluminum necks that I was able to get off. I also re-outlined the Sho-Bud pedal bar pac-a-seat decal with a paint pen. I think she cleaned up nicely and so did the owner!! Smile

Some pics... Cool

Hope that's not too many pics...

I agree about the negative comments about the Pro III Custom. I often wonder if people actually play the guitars that they bad mouth. The Pro III Buds are a great sounding and great playing guitar, and well worth consideration.

Super job Tod. Looks as good as a 32 Ford with a full race flathead dressed to the 9th. Can't get better than that. Jr.
