Any one out there have any sound bytes of Jeff Au Hoy ? IMHO he truly has that vintage sound.I have one of him playing "Aloha O'e" So Sweet! I truly haven't heard any one who captures that nostalgic feel, and that's just one song.

You probably meant free sound bites, but I visited the HSGA website recently where there used to be a few Jeff Au Hoy tunes and now I find none.

He can be heard on recent CDs or iTunes downloads by Aaron Sala, Cody Pueo Pata, Holunape, and the Brothers Cazimero. If you are only interested in tunes he played on, I can post a list of the cuts.

P.S. You can bet that 93% of that sound is in his hands. He is playing a vintage Rickenbacker fry pan, of course, but he just traded in his MusicMan tube amp for a Fender solid state and claims he is getting an even better tone. Hmmm....

Somebody should compile Jeff's studio log before it get's too extensive, he's probably the best steeler with the least available listening.
And HSGA really needs to re-up their site's sounds page to include the many listening features that are now MIA.

Concerning Jeff Au Hoy, I'd like to add this one to the mix.

You don't see Jeff on this next video, but I guarantee it's him on the steel. I was there watching my wife Denise doing the hula.

If JEFF is reading this thread, I want him to know how much I love the song HUAKA'ILEWA ! Beautiful and so beautifully performed ! I have worked out the melody line and normally the chords would not pose a problem. However, this tune has me a bit stumped. If Jeff, (or any other good soul reading this thread), would kindly jot the chord sequence, I'd be most grateful. Mahalo !

Eh Keoki, this is nothing more or less than the old "Star Trek" theme! This should help, though I haven't tested it myself:

Eh,(Canadian, of course), MIKE...Thanks but with all due respects, what you sent is all Greek to me, (with apologies to the Greek). I'd really prefer traditional chord (symbols) if at all possible. I think JEFF played that song in the key of Bb ... ? Smile

Norman,
Your wife does the hula quite nicely! Cool

I believe that Jeff Au Hoy plays steel guitar for Kealoha Kalama and her group quite often.

Aloha, Smile
