Topic: What's the difference between a Roland 80X and 80XL |

I have seen a S/H Roland 80X advertised for roughly half price in the UK. I was wondering what the difference would be between this and an 80XL. I don't want to buy it and then find that it is severely limited in relation to the 80XL.
Can anyone tell me the difference? |

Chris i found this on the internet
The only other additions of the 80XL are:
1) an "extreme" model
2) a "heavy octave" effect
3) 80-second looper instead of 40
4) NOTE - the new 80XL's delay section only has "delay" and "looper," while the old 80X has both "warm" (analog) and "clear" (digital) delay, as well as a looper.
looks like there might have been a trade off as far as the delay and modeling,
hope this helps ya some but im not sure what the S/H is |

Chris,
I think Roger has it just right, as to the differences between the 80x and the 80xl.
After playing through an 80xl at a friend's home, and after reading all the comments here on the SGF, I decided to search for an 80xl on Craigslist, etc. There was an 80x in the ads one day, and I determined that the features that were on the xl but not on the x were features I did not need, i.e., the low octave and the 80 second vs. 40 second looper. I tried the amp out before buying, and it sounded exactly like the 80xl, to me. The price was a bit less than the used 80xls that I had seen on the internet.
I have played a couple of gigs with the 80x, and it has performed very well. The "string separation" or "clarity", for lack of better terms, seems excellent. It is plenty loud, too.
