Topic: RV3 vs Lexicon 100 |

| I'm considering switching from an RV3 to a simple Lexicon like the 100 but I'm concerned about tone loss. Which one has the most musical delay and reverb, in your opinion? |

If you have the patience to fiddle with the settings, the lexicon will have greater flexibility, I'd think. I'd surf the forum for settings suggestions.
I like mine, but eschew the delay.

The RV3 is an "instrument" level device (operates on a low level signal). The Lexicon is a "line" level device and requires a high signal level for proper operation. If you use the Lexicon with just the guitar level signal it will be noisy.
If you have a Peavey amp such as a Nashville 112 or 1000, the Lexicon will work in the Post EQ loop. Or between the Preamp out and the Power Amp in.
The Digitech RV7 is a "stomp box" stereo reverb unit that has Lexicon reverbs. If you want Lexicon reverbs in an instrument level device, look into this. http://www.zzounds.com/item--HADRV7 |

Jack, I find that if I run my MPX100 in the volume pedal loop of my session 500 (after the pedal, as I find the sound more natural that way), I find that I need to back the input level knob almost all the way off to avoid clipping,
and I have never found it noticeably noisy.
this makes me wonder if the quarter inch jacks are instruments level, and the XLR jacks are line level. is that possible?

I had an early model MPX-100 that had both an input control and an output control on it.
It worked fine between the volume pedal and the input of any of the amps I had. No noise. No distortion. Just beautiful Lexicon reverb. |

There have been reports on here, and other forums, of low signal to noise ratio which is due to using a "line level" device with the low "instrument level".
The Lexicon manuals (I've had several different Lexicon models inclusing a 200, 300 and MPX1) all state "line level" and warn about instrument level. |

Lee, that's what I have. l pad the input down to avoid clipping. When before the amp, that's a bit more than 12 o'clock, but if in the volume circuit, even 8 o'clock is too much, resulting in lots of distortion.
love the unit, though
EDIT: Interesting, Jack. I must read my manual for the 100 and see if it's an exception. I don't know if it's just mine, but it certainly harbors a dislike for hot inputs.
