This is a continuing thread from the recent reverb thread in this section. I know there are other effects, but reverb and delay seem to be the most popular with steel players.

No reverb, just a touch of delay - I couldn't tick a category.

Reverb in the Nashville 400 and a touch of delay with a XMR Carbon Copy, but not much.

For live - just reverb (fender twin or "wet") unless I know I'm going to want some really washed out or spacey sounds, then I'll bring a delay too.

In studio - A boss dm2 analog delay or tape echo and I leave the reverb up to the engineer.

Not being a "pro", playing to lay people audiences mostly. I use a little of each, (need all the help I can get) seems to liven it up, and puts the music out there. Too much is distracting. ... Cool

I'm trying to get b0b to add the Delay option. Drag that I missed it. Sad

I've added Delay and moved it to the Electronics section.

My vote above is gor "reverb" as most of the time the springs in the amp are enough for me, but the right delay inserted before the 'verb is a beautiful thing and I won't hesitate to use it when appropriate Very Happy

I agree with Dave. Tube reverb is best, spring pedal (like the holy grail) is second best. Sometimes I use an analog delay pedal - but its rare.

Country or Roots type gigs, just a Fender amp with a bit of reverb.
Blues/rock, just delay (plus distortion of course)

I play with one ambient space music band where I use:
Eventide Pitch Factor
Eventide Mod Factor
Eventide Time Factor
Eventide Space
2 Carbon Copy delays

sometimes all at once!

I use both - not normally at the same time but occasionally I will. I just switch in the delay and reverb separately (both digital) dependant upon the song. I have a load of effects units but lately I like the Digitech Rev-7 reverb unit and the Boss Space Echo delay pedal.

I use both effects sparingly, as they can cloud the sound of the note if used too heavily. I don't use the built-in spring reverbs in amps as they give the annoying clattering noise on some stages that are less solid. The best spring reverb I have come across was in my old Fender Twin silverface. It sounded superb.

The Fender Jazzmaster Ultralite has the built in digital effects that a lot of others have with reverb, delay, tremolo, rotating speaker. It has a really good spring verb sound that is coupled with delay. A small amount of this combination adds some nice depth. Not a well known amp for steel but it does an admirable job with a speaker cabinet that weighs about 10 pounds.

I selected reverb because that's what I always have available. I don't own a dedicated delay pedal, but occasionally I'll use the Pod XT which includes delay. It really depends on the gig. My amp has a nice sounding reverb spring, so I always have a touch of reverb.

Here is a not-so-portable reverb unit.
