A few weeks ago I sat behind an 8-5, Sho-bud D10 for the first time. Normally, I would be sitting at my Remington D10 non-pedal wondering how difficult it would be to go from non-pedal to pedal steel that is tuned to C6th. From all the nightmare stories I have read on this forum, I was actually mentally intimidated to the point of being afraid to even attempt trying a pedal steel.

My friend’s Sho-Bud front neck was basically tuned to the same C6th tuning that my Remington D10 is tuned to, so I borrowed his pedal steel to see if I could step into the dark unknown and survive. Jeez, it was as easy as going from plain apple pie to apple pie with whipped cream on it. Now I am beginning to wonder where all these nightmarish posts are coming from? Once I learned where the three pedals and two knee levers I needed were located, it was a piece of cake. The only problem I had was stepping on the wrong pedal or stepping on two pedals at the same time. “I quickly learned that you don’t wear oxford shoes playing a pedal steel!” (Not to mention the entire guitar moving sideways when a knee lever is pressed.)

E9th pedal?????????????? Different story completely.Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Embarassed I’ll stick to the C6th tuning.

I personally think that lap steel with D13 and A6th should be taught prior to pedals..........sure wish I had been that route.
