Topic: Rack lid hinge that kicks back about 30 degrees...where? |

I want my 4-space FX rack lid (solid wood, carpet covered) to lie back about 30° or so from vertical (further away from me) so I can prop a small PedalTrain board across it. I like to use a mix of rack and stompbox gear.
I prefer a pair of hinges built like that, rather than straps or metal slider doo hickeys.
What's a source for hinges like that?

I have some hinges with built in stops on my steel cases (two piece set) That I got from "Reliable Hardware" which is located in N. Hollywood. I tried to get some more but they have been discontinued.
I don't know if these are 30 degrees, but are much nicer than having a strap or whatever to hold the lid. |

Good links, Rick, thanks. The more I think about the weight of a pedalboard and 4-5 stompboxes, the more I think straps or metal stays of some sort will be the way to go. Gear in my rack is pretty heavy already, hopefully I won't also need some sort of bracing stick to keep the rack from tipping over.

I think you are better off with the "lid stays" too.
I'm finally replacing a PSG case because the 90 deg stop in the hinge was about 10 degs too short for the leg angle while setting up the guitar in the case like we do. The guitar put too much pressure on the open lid which eventually broke out the back wall from the side walls.
Check out lid stay 23739 from Rockler Woodworking. ~ $10.00/pair. They come in brass or Nickel plated. By mounting them further back on the side walls you can get an angle greater than 90 degs by my casual observation. They publish a spec sheet that shows mounting dimensions BTW. |

The cable lid stays that Parts Express have broke for me. I had one on my case lid, before I put the hinges with the stop on my cases, and one end of the cable on the steel body case came apart at the eyelet.
I've used the heavier plumbing "chain" soldered to eylets at each end and covered using clear plastic plumbing tubing. I secured them at each end with a pop rivet. The Franklin, like Sho-Bud has a neck switch at the changer end plate so there is a 1" space and that allowed use of a pop rivet and it did not touch the end plate. |
