I'm trying the free 30 day trial of Spotify, and just for fun I typed in Buddy Emmons. They have 2 albums available for streaming, Steel Guitar and Buddy Emmons Sings Bob Wills. Cool! |

How can someone's page that's free, voluntary, and a known public exposure be invasive? |

Thanks Bryan! It's not all about money guys... It amazes me how fast some of you can be so negative! I think its a great thing, I have a lot of younger friends that don't even listen to radio anymore because of Spotify.. I'm happy that Buddy Emmons and the steel guitar is so well represented there... |

Spotify has to be looked on more as a radio station than Itunes.
Spotify = radio station
Itunes = record store
The main purpose of Spotify to an emerging artist is publicity and exposure.
the question is, if you can program your own radio station, why would anyone buy music? I don't have an answer. I can't imagine buying another CD or downloading anything from Itunes again.
I mean: the ENTIRE back catalog of Blue Note is on Spotify! I am currently going through all of the Bluenote records starting from their first issue in 1939.
It will change the music industry. As I mentioned in another post, selling music as a revenue source is impossible except for the very top pop acts. Spotify must be used as a publicity source to drive an audience to live performance.
This is not to dismiss Jim's frustration which is understandable. But it IS the way of the world now, and you need to adjust to the new world, IMHO. |

When the world decided it didn't want to pay a musician any more than $50 a gig and it decided that DJs and line dancers were the answer to all it's problems, I realized it was time for an adjustment - so I retired. |

If you really want to be well informed about Spotify,
just read up the WIKI information here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotify
Artist renumeration problems?
Quote:
Charles Caldas, CEO of the Merlin Network for independent artists,
argues that the problem isn't Spotify's failure to pay out significant royalties,
but that it's paid to the record labels, who then pass too little of it onto their artists.
Quote:
During 2010, Spotify paid more than €45 million to their licensors. |
