Good stuff as usual Doug. Nice moody sound, I felt like I was at the Enchanted Sea. Way to go. |

What a pure joy it was to hear/see you play this latest contribution.
Unique 'sound'! Great technique and touch. Your harmonics were terrific.
I realize the 'lap steel' is NOT a sophisticated instrument.....but believe I observed you using such a device with your right foot.......anyway.
Might you explain for we novices?
Your accompaniment was, as always, second to none. |

Big Martin Denny Fan! Although, no steel guitar in his band, (off topic?) his exotica music was my gateway drug to Hawaiiana and Tiki culture!
I had a couple long phone conversations with him a few years before he passed away. I was working on a movie on Oahu, 2001, and found his number in the phone book!
Very fun and interesting guy. Many of his compositions would sound great on steel guitar. |

Santo and Johnny and Chet Atkins did great covers of that tune. You're definitely right up there for interpretation, Doug. I too have always loved it though when I play it I think of it as a twangy, reverb-laden surf tune.
Here's Santo & Johnny's beautiful version:

That is beautiful Doug!
If you switch out the intro beach-tones for galloping horses and crunching sand, I hear spaghetti western. |

yep another winner Doug, do you find that extra fretboard width closer to you body has any effect on the ease of playing, also thanks for airing an often seen but rarely heard instrument, Im after a 7 string at the moment n those gibbos sure catch my eye, wish they were more wallet friendly ( tho those Ram lookalikes appear very good value ) |

Thanks for the kind comments. Yes, I do like the extra wide body/fretboard on this Gibson. It makes the guitar feel more like a console because I can rest my hand on the wide fretboard occasionally. I like the wide string spacing too. I think Gibson used this same body/fretboard for the 8-string model (and the 6-string). The best feature of this guitar is the sound. The pickup is strong and lively. I've owned a couple of other Gibsons and I thought they sounded kind of dull, but this one has a very strong voice. Thanks again. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel
