Here is a 1965 video of Joe Zinkan, a monster slap bassist playing Alabama Jubilee. That looks a whole lot like JB singing along at about 0:46.

THANK YOU so very much for the heads-up.......

Great to watch him play that doghouse bass. It's amazing how talent shows itself.

YES! That was JERRY BYRD on that series of clips. On one he had his Sho-Bud while on the others he appeared to be playing his FENDER. On one, he demonstrates how he uses the volume pedal so nicely.

In days of yore I attempted to play the "doghouse" in slap style, almost ruined my right hand ! Gads this is an absolutely awesome demonstration of fantastic slap playing.... unbelievable ! I have NEVER seen it done so well with so little effort. He plays every note perfectly in tune. As I discovered, (and failed so dismally), playing slap is a real art not to be taken lightly ! I would imagine he must be very elderly by now, if he is still with us...It seems to be a lost art.

Listen to the steel right there : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP5Cw2y6jEI#t=1m08

It almost sounds like a theremin. great use of the pedal volume.
