Pat for not knowing the song I think you did a good job. Its not what we usually play but I have filled in with groups that did songs other than what I would normally play. If my wife would go along with it I'd move west and play shuffles and ballads all night long. With that said, I've played in bands that would throw in a few tunes like the one you just posted and I enjoyed it.
Its always nice to step out of your comfort zone and find something that will fit the situation. I think you did a fine job and if you do any more post them and we'll check on your progress. You have a good start, keep it up.

As a player in a band that hosts a jam/open mic gig twice a month, I often have to play stuff I have never played or heard, even someone's originals.

I thought you did just fine. I only listened to half of it.

Pretty darn good for both only a year at the contraption and not having heard or tried to play the song.
Nice tasteful choice of what to play.

Pointers?
I noticed you used the A pedal and BC pedal forms almost exclusively: I'm finding the D# lever (that'd be G# min open) very rewarding, and the A pedal and F# strings doing nice melodic duty there (the b9 of the B pedal notsomuch).
Oh, keep at it. Good stuff.

I shared it with my lady, we agree your playing was good
However, we wonder how the rhythm section managed to scientifically remove the groove to preserve it for later use. I believe it was originally Bo Diddley, and then Golden Earring and some others added some acid rock overtones to the Bo Diddley beat. See

Also, since there appears no standard of where to put the knees, describing by location doesn't help much (since some call the E-D# lever "E" and some call it "D", I prefer calling them by their functions).
