Melvin Endsley, who wrote Singing the Blues, which was a hit for Guy Mitchell and Marty Robbins, also wrote I Like Your Kind of Love, which was a hit for Andy Williams.

Whatever happened to him, and who played steel ?

Alan: I don't know who played steel for him, but Melvin died August 16, 2004.

Yes, I was thinking it sounded like Jerry Byrd or Don Helms. Cool
The studio credits show both Jerry and Don on steel. Shocked

JERRY BYRD did record with Melvin Endsley however it is neither he nor Don Helms on the questioned item.

Jerry can be heard on You Tube on Melvin's Hickory record of "For My Baby" and "You Make it sound so easy to forget". You might want to give it a listen.

There must be at least two more sides floating around out there with JERRY BYRD's sweet steel guitar on them.

Matthieu, it looks to me that the studio list is for the entire album, not that one number. Otherwise, how does one account for multiple composers, and more musicians than a symphony orchestra ? Indeed, it lists the Jordanaires as vocalists, when they're plainly not on that track. It also lists Jerry Byrd as playing both steel guitar and bass. I don't think even Jerry had the talent to play both simultaneously.
If Ray doesn't think the steel is Don or Jerry, and I've always considered Ray to be the foremost expert on Jerry, it still leaves the question open as to who was really playing steel. The studio list includes Jimmy Day on steel, too, so maybe that's the answer.
I've ordered the CD, so maybe all will become evident when I have a chance to listen through it.
