I spoke with someone at Peterson on the telephone today to see if I could get any info on the successor to the StroboFlip. I was told that the new model would not be available until late December. She also told me that between now and then that the Peterson Stomp Classic is their best option for the pedal steel.
Is the Stomp Classic one of the best options that has sweetened tunings specifically for the pedal steel? Other brands/models I should be looking at?

The Sonic Research strobe tuner is an option. It comes with the Newman settings and the Emmons settings pre-programmed (you select which one you want) or you can program whatever you want into it. And, its made in the USA.

I like the sonic turbo tuner better for one simple reason. I can see the strobe easier.

The ST122A still does not show up on Sonic Research's web site. I've emailed them twice with no answer on the tuner's availability. I realize that some people have gotten them recently however. Sonic has posted on other forums that the 122A is in short supply and asked people not to post the direct link to the 122A page because they can't meet existing orders and don't wish to accept new orders.

Here's is Sonic's response to the above link:
"The ST-122A was out of production for about a year and we have a very long waiting list. We are sending emails to everyone on the list in the order we received their request. We are only sending a certain number of emails each day to insure we are not overloaded with orders.
Our intention was to give everyone on the waiting list first chance at one of the new tuners, and to hold off updating the website until everyone on the list had been contacted.
The links were not intended to be posted, and as a result we have been flooded with orders and are unable to keep up. As such the links have been removed.
We will continue contacting people on the waiting list once we get caught up with the flood of orders.

If you run a smartphone, Cleartune is a tuner app that costs $3.00
While it doesn't come loaded with offsets, it is not hard to load your own. I have three loaded in mine

| I've got the cleartone app on my iPad, and it can be programmed for your tuning. But, its not like having a Peterson or Sonic Research tuner. |

I have Cleartone and DaTuner Pro on my Andriod (Galaxy Nexus). Great apps and am using them as a backup but could use them for my main tuner. Still prefer having a dedicated tuner and maybe over timer the dedicated tuner would become the backup.

boy I wish they had this for PSG. You just strum across the strings and touch up the tuning on the fly
I think this is the best tuner for guitar made.

You will like it. For whatever reason, I couldn't use the preprogrammed Newman tuning in a Strobe-O-Flip (my guitar just didn't want to tune up and it sounded out of tune) so I was using my own modified Newman tunings. With the ST122A, I'm able to use the Newman Tunings without problems.
The only thing is they have the wrong A octave programmed for the C6th 10th string drop to A. They have it programmed as "A2" and it should be "A1". You can change it yourself if they haven't updated the PROM in the tuner. You can call support and they will walk you through changing it if needed.
The older ST122 didn't have this issue and "A2" would work. Their Engineer told me they changed the input detecting circuitry and apparently the reason A2 works in the ST122 but not in the ST122A |
