Jim,
If your steel was made before 1953 chances are it never had a decal. Decals were not stock from the factory until 1953 as far as I know. |

Mike,
I think as long as you don't make them
to sell it's ok,just don't get cought
making/selling without permission.
If you can find the Fender logo you can get
decal materal for printers.scan it print it
stick it.

Another wonder on the forum! ( I was just gonna post a question on this topic...)
Here's the question. I have a '53 (I think)Fender T-8 Custom. I had always assumed that it had been refinished since there is no logo on the front and the finish is a glossy walnut on top but just a flat walnut stain on the bottom. Might this actually be the original finish? |

| I have a triple 8 with walnut finish dated nov. 54 with no decal on the front. I've wondered about this also since it has definitely never been refinished, and on close inspection there isn't any sign of there ever having been a decal. Is this just another case of small inconsistencies during early production? |

Is yours also a glossy finish? I had only seen flat Walnut finishes before which is another of the reasons I'd just assumed mine had been refinished. |

| Chris, yeah, mine's completely finished top to bottom with the glossy nitrocellulose lacquer finish, which is as far as I know pretty much standard on Stringmasters.(If such as thing as a standard for early Fenders exists.) I know it's been mentioned already on the Forum that some intrepid individual should write a definitive book on the subject. Preferably someone who likes mystery novels. |

| I don't know the legalities either, but these replaceable decals have long since been unavailable from Fender. The font is called "Brushed Script." If you don't have that font, you can find it in press-on lettering, but only in white or black, not gold. Or you can find a picture of one in an old Fender catalog and scan it, size it and color it gold, but then you have to find printer paper with a clear glossy surface and an adhesive backing, attached to a backing paper that can be removed before mounting. I haven't checked the office supply chains to find out whether such printer paper is available. |
