Folks, I just wanted to try Lace squareneck Dobro PU on Bobby Wolfe's Dobro since it can be mounted externally.
Boy, that PU is noisy! if I run a ground wire from tailpiece to the sleeve of the jack, noise go away. But that defeats the design of this PU.
(PU comes with hardwired, shrink wrapped end-pin jack. that's where you plug in 1/4" guitar cable in it)
Anyone experienced any issues? or mine I just bought is defective?

Maybe the jack is supposed to go through the claw? On my PBS-8 the endpin is through the claw... same with the Regal. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

well, then, why does it come with heat shrink wrapped end-pin jack? And the cord has a tiny loop on it deliverately, so you can hook it on the strap pin( which is usually attached on the tail-piece).
I thought Lace stuff is high-tech like dummy coil and some special stuff in the very thin package, but apparently that's not the case with this Dobro PU.
It's just a thin, single coil PU without any shielding epoxied in the PU cover. |

mine goes to a proper end pin jack installed in place of the original end pin and i've never had a problem with hum. |

Hi Chris, do you mean, you installed end-pin jack on the metal tail-piece? Then you body(hand) is grounding it so it'll be quiet.
But I'm not totally impressed with their design thou.
why don't they provide a piece of bare wire from the heat-shrunk end-pin, and instruct user to wrap that bare wire around the strap button.
Well, they don't, because that sounds like Mickey Mouse, that's why. |

i use a regular endpin jack like an acoustic guitar would have. doing away with the jack that comes with the pickup. you may have some other issue causing the hum. |

Chris, BTW, this PU comes with that Switchcraft Acoustic Guitar endpin jack like the one comes with Fishman. But it's heat-shrink wrapped and it's not shielded. That's where the noise comes in. |
