I read somewhere in a newspaper band review that on Steve Tylers AEROSMITH tour, guitar hero Joe Perry played some songs on a pedal steel !!?? Anyone maybe that caught a show know anything about this ?? They are an immensely popular group and that would give pedal steel a big boost if true ?? Anyone know anything , like what brand of steel ?? Eddie "C" the ole geezer

I can't point you to any examples, but yes he does play some pedal steel. Several years ago, Freeman Cowgar and company developed the Cougar Slidemaster 6 string pedal steel for him. I think the final product had maybe 4 pedals and 4 knees. I was told this by a former associate of Mr. Cowgar when I contacted him about a prototype he was selling a couple yrs. ago.

I've never heard Perry play pedals, so I don't know about the tuning or his style.

I was told there are some examples of his playing on youtube, but I haven't been able to find anything on several separate searches.

I saw a more recent photo of him somewhere behind another one but I can't remember what brand, model it was or where I saw it. I believe it was one of the more recent builds.

I've read Steven Tyler is eccentric to say the very least, collects and plays many different exotic instruments, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Joe Perry played pedal steel on the side.

If Ron can do it with the Stones, why cant Joe with Aerosmith? Although I suppose the correct guitar analogy would be Richards/Wood:Perry/Whitford, I used to frequently compare Jagger/Richards (The Glimmer Twins), with Tyler/Perry (The Toxic Twins), back in the day (which was on a Ruby Tuesday, BTW).

Aerosmith had a comeback with DMC. PSG is having a revival comeback too (but not that it really ever left...its always been cool). Anyway, I hope the rumor is true and he turns it out to the masses. Wink
