Need some advice here fellow members.....I have a LTD 400....from around 1980.The amp has a 1501 BW in it and when I hit my 10th string on the C6th neck the amp emits a distorted sound.
Only the 10th string....don't hear the distortion when any of the other strings are hit.
Could it be a speaker a problem?
I know it's not the guitar because I've tried another amp and had no distortion. |

Have you tried hooking the amp up to a different speaker? That would isolate the problem to either the amp, or the speaker.
If the problem is in the amp, you might try plugging a short patch cable from the pre-out to the amp-in jacks (in the back of the amp) and see if the problem goes away. If so, you need to clean, or replace, those jacks. If the jacks aren't the cause, then I'd advise a trip to a good amp tech.
If the BW speaker is the problem, you might check to be sure the voice coil gap is clean and free of debris. If it is, then you probably need a new basket. _________________ Best regards,

This is the real LTD 400 so there are no jacks on the back to connect a cable.....that would be on a Session 400 Limited.
I did change out speakers and problem is solved. |

Are you sure? I have rebuilt a lot of them and it seems there was a speaker jack. The manual shows one.
A lot of times I have seen the older 1502-4 speakers do this and it was a result of the spider coming unglued from the basker assembly. You can remove the basket from the magnet to verify that the spider and also the edge surround are not loose (saw the edge loose on a Scorpion speaker a while back, made a terrible distortion). |

Here is an LTD=400 I did a few years ago (not a Limited, the real deal). Has one speaker jack. Session 400 has 2 jacks.

Yes Ken my amp has a speaker out jack.
I took Mr.Wheeler's reply to mean to look for pre-amp out and power amp in jacks on the back as would be found on a Nashville 400,Vegas 400,Session 400 Limited, etc.
My problem was with the 1501 BW that was in there....I've been thinking about putting in a 1502 BW and this incident made me do it.
Problem is solved and amp sounds great!! |

Super. Those are great amps. With a Neo speaker I think it would weight less than a N112. Lot of power in a small package and tone to boot. |
