Sgt. Army 1970-72, Basic at Ft Leonardwood, Advanced infantry training at Ft Ord, volunteered for Nam, NCO school at Ft. Benning, OJT with 4th mechanized at Ft Carson. Sat at Oakland for a week waiting to fly west and was diverted to Ft. Dix and Berlin Germany. Served double duty as company reenlistment NCO in Berlin. I was playing steel 6 months before entering the Army. I've been active duty Air Force since 2003. I have the best job in the world. I play pedal steel guitar for the Air Force Academy Band, and love every part of my job. Thanks to everyone for your service.

It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act. |

US Army 1965-1968. Basic at Ft. Leonard Wood, AIT at Ft.Ord, Assigned to CENTAG between Mannheim and Heidelberg, Germany. While there a band came through playing the EM club, one of the members played I believe either a Fender 800 or a Fender 1000. He took a group of triplets up the neck and I was hooked forever. Thus started my journey into the insanity of learning to play pedal steel guitar. I, too was proud to serve my country and do my part. |

Ooops...fat-fingered. That's Kevlavik, Iceland. Played in 1966-67 (rhythm guitar and banjo) in a C/W band with a great steel player. Wish I could remember his name. |

I spent some time on the huge Oil Tanker circa 1969-1972 spent time steaming down south past Bermuda Triangle (Strange Place) to Roosevelt Rhoads, Puerto Rico US Naval station. I was on the verge of a Mediterrean tour of duty when my legs gave out on me, out on Medical with Honorable Discharge.
