I remember when Connie and Weldon first put out this song. A girl we had auditioning with us in a club in Hollywood, Florida suggested this song. I asked everyone to leave the stage to give me time to work on a tape that the girl had brought with her. A half hour later when I had things in order, we did it. We hired the girl and used this song as her introduction to the audience. I'd studied Weldon for years with his work with both Connie and Bill Anderson, so it wasn't too bad for me.
Sometime later, Weldon changed his E9 tuning for a song and had 3 chromatic strings, F#, Eb and Bb. I tried the tuning at an audition in Orlando and really messed things up; kept tripping on the Bb... |

Thanks for posting Tony. I sure wish we had the Marty Stuart Show up here in Canada so I could watch Gary Carter every week!
Neil, do you have some listening suggestions as far as Weldon's work with Bill Anderson? |

Neil, Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite sure, Mr. Weldon Myrick is still with us. As far as I know, he still performs and on occasion attends various steel guitar jams and events. I sure would like to meet him someday! Roger |

A fine choice, Tony. Gary plays great on this one. Thanks.
I may as well post this one for the umpteenth time. Gary deserves it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI56hQOsmos
Gary is number one in my books. Not only is the Lighthouse a fine piece of music, but Gary's playing is a study in great right hand technique, not the mention the superb footwork. Just watch his precise left foot around 2:45 _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Sorry to Jim and Roger and anyone else read my note; I'm sure I read about a year or two ago that he had died. My bad! |

Wow, Alex, at first glance it looks like you've nailed it! Thanks for the 'heads-up' on the two Youtube videos. And thanks for your statement at the end of your messages - so true, so true... |
