I know I'm late to the game on this, but I found a Podxt on Ebay for $85. Decided to save some time and get Tommy's preset CD. Got here in 2 days, took 10 minutes to load in the Pod. Used the PA 2 setting for my gig last night. I loved it and so did our sound tech. When you consider all the time it takes to dial in an acceptable steel preset it's a bargain at $22. Highly recommended.

Michael that was a smart move on your end , I hate parting with my money for information, I gotta tell you, you would have 2-3 months and 500 hours of lost practice time to figure it all out, I didnt know there was a preset book for this type of device for 22 bucks, does he have one for the pod HD ?

If you want some POD XT/X3 effects only "tones" (what Line 6 calls the programs), you can download what I use from my web site, use the free Line 6 "Gearbox" program to load them on to your POD.

While you are at it, if haven't done it, download the free Line 6 "Monkey" program. That program will check your POD for any updates, and allow you to install them. You can also save your "bundle" (all the Tones) so you can easily reload them if needed.
